Leadership within your organization is complex and ever-changing. My greatest joy is empowering you as an adaptive leader to find joy and to build personal and organizational capacity as you tackle your most difficult problems.
Co-creating spaces of listening and learning in order to build healthy organizational ecosystems is an honor that I take seriously.
Investing over 25 years in growing nonprofit organizations has been one of my greatest joys. I have loved my roles that focused on organization development, leadership development, strategic planning, project management, and campaign counsel.
Eastway’s work follows in the footsteps of Henri Nouwen’s classic study, Spirituality of Fundraising, but it picks up where Nouwen leaves off. Nouwen is clear that fundraising is the opposite of begging; rather fundraising is proclaiming our mission and inviting others to participate in it. This is precisely where Kevin picks up in exploring what this relationship might look like. Through his own examples over decades of faith-based fundraising for personal support and programmatic funding, he is refreshingly honest about how he has grown in his own expertise and understanding around fundraising. And the key take-away is: "it’s about faithful friendship."
If you find yourself dreading or fearing the fundraising part of your ministry work, this book will provide you the confidence you need to approach your relationships with donors in a whole new way.
Kevin Eastway is on a transformational mission to recast fundraising from a secular framework to a spiritual one. “Fundraising is the opportunity to show the proof of our love to our supporters. Giving is good for the soil of our souls. The hope, as we invite people into the story of Jesus through the act of generosity, is that their lives will never be the same as a result of their giving.” Ultimately, I agree with Kevin that we must integrate the practice of fundraising with practical spirituality, thinking of supporters as human beings who long to be connected to God’s kingdom here on earth and invited into a community that is marked by love, joy, and purpose.
I believe many ministry staff will find this book to present a clear understanding and be an energizing source for performing the entirety of their ministry and fundraising duties as the dynamic and adventurous journey it is intended to be!
Kevin has given us all a gift with this book. If you are someone who struggles with fundraising as a part of your ministry or have been a long-standing professional who has lost your spark, Kevin’s spirit-led and practical wisdom will refresh your calling. His personal vulnerability and storytelling will feel like a breath of fresh air to renew your purpose as a fundraiser.
In Faithful Friendship, Dr. Eastway artfully removes the lenses of fundraising misconceptions to reveal a much bigger picture of ‘the mission’ and ‘the blessing’ God intended this discipline to be. The book shows Christ’s heart by gently coming alongside the reader while skillfully breaking down dangerous misconceptions that lead to missionary fatigue. Eastway’s heart for the struggle missionaries go through, along with his ability to show that fundraising can and should actually be life-giving, will reinvigorate the soul of the missionary.
Building Financial Sustainability and Deepening Donor Relationships
Raising money can be challenging and stressful for leaders and organizations. With seemingly scarce resources and endless need, it feels daunting to build sustainable funding streams to fuel your mission. I can help you build an authentic fundraising movement that deepens donor relationships and capitalizes on the unique strengths of your organization. The process isn’t always easy and requires a willingness for you to face your fears about fundraising. In the end, you will gain a clearer vision for how authentic development efforts can transform your organization and generate the sustained resources to further your mission. For nonprofit organizations, fundraising and development are the lifeblood of ensuring sustainability of the mission for the future.
Clarifying Your Purpose as a Leader and Organization
As a leader, you face the immense challenge of managing the many demands of running an organization with limited time and resources. This reality makes it difficult to work on long-term vision. I can help you and your organization gain renewed clarity of purpose through strategic visioning for the future. The process requires leaders to engage their constituents in new ways and be open to surprises and opportunities. In the end, leaders gain confidence in the direction and purpose of their work and what is required to move forward together.
Strengthening the Capacity of Leaders and their Organizations
Leaders today face immense the immense challenges of complexity of organizational culture, decisions around prioritizing scarce resources, and navigating the loneliness and isolation of leadership. My greatest joy is walking alongside leaders through providing a ministry of presence, engaging in deep listening, asking powerful questions, and helping build an action and accountability process.
Deepening Relationships through Listening and Community Discovery
Finding time as a leader today is challenging and often seems to be near impossible. When your time is scarce, the idea of slowing down and listening is stressful. I can help you pause in order to intentionally listen to your stakeholders through a process of discovery. The Discovery process will change your perspective, realign your time and resources, and deepen your relationships with your staff, board, supporters, and community. Listening requires an openness to learning alongside your stakeholders yet produces amazing insights and clarity that can propel your mission toward a vibrant future. The stakeholders of your organization, customers, donors, families, staff, board, or community leaders, are essential partners in advancing your mission.
