The Third Turn

Getting familiar with Maestro-level leaders

A year ago I stood on my porch in Idaho and made a video announcing an initiative for Maestro-level leaders.

So much has happened since then!

The first Maestro-level leaders cohort is entering its fifth month. We are developing the next cohort, slated to launch in October this year.

More than twenty episodes of the Third Turn Podcast were released.

My long-time blog was changed to an ongoing resource for Maestro-level Leaders.

The LinkedIn paper on the Three Turns of the Executive Leader was published.

Kristin Evenson joined me in co-hosting our podcast and as our next cohort facilitator.

The mission of this initiative is the learning and development of accomplished executives as they move toward future value, succession and legacy on behalf of the organizations they serve.

We often point out that the last chapters of highly regarded executive careers are spent building future value for what others will lead. We also often say that executive decisions need to be made with all of our grandchildren's grandchildren in mind.

We are not alone in our concern for this difficult moment that destroys careers and companies if not carefully planned and tightly guarded.  A recent book out of the British business community, "Changing Gear,"  joins us in making this case. Authors Jan Hall and John Stokes also call this a third stage of executive life.

If executives don't figure out their Third Turn much value is destroyed. Figuring it out is hard work and is lived in significantly unique ways. Companions for this unique journey are crucial. It is our privilege to gather them.

We can't wait to see what the next year brings, perhaps with some of you along!
