A simpler path to innovation

Posted by Mark L. Vincent on Oct 4, 2018 8:36:55 AM
Consider this: there is little brain space left over to innovate and create new to the world products, processes and services when one is embroiled in self-protection and dismissing or destroying others.
In this era of intensity, anger, inability to admit guilt, and willingness to destroy the reputation of others, we might consider a different manner of leadership.
  • Rather than “I know stuff,” we could start with “I don’t know."
  • Rather than “I have to beat you at any cost,” we could start with readiness to collaborate and lift up others.
  • Rather than manipulating data, publishing misinformation and repeating hearsay, we could start with authenticity and transparency.
Let’s not be naive. Any of these different starting points might come with personal cost, at least initially. And yet, while we might have to bear that burden, we would not have inflicted it on others.
We could change the starting point because we are thinking longer term, because we hold to a vision laden with hope, because we value integrity over imperiousness, respect over adulation, faithfulness over fury, creativity over cretinism, culture over callousness.
Innovation grows within safe places to offer one's ideas, not from war-torn streets, not from shouting matches, and not from sullen silence.
If you own or operate a business, I’d like to invite you to come and think more deeply about the path to innovation. I’ll be at a TESCHGlobal sponsored event, featuring Sunnie Giles in Boise on November 1st. Consider making the journey! Here is how you can register:
